飞鸟乐队（The Byrds）
飞鸟乐队由五人组成，核心人物是吉姆·麦吉恩（Jim McGuinn），1964年飞鸟乐队成立以前，麦吉恩曾与民谣有过密切接触，包括参加鲍勃·迪伦的乐队。1965年，飞鸟乐队发行了他们演唱的《手鼓先生》（Mr．Tambourine Man）等4首由迪伦创作的歌曲。这样用电声的、摇滚化的方式来伴奏民谣歌曲，在当时是一件新鲜事物。1965年6月，飞鸟乐队的翻唱版《手鼓先生》获第一名，给迪伦带来很大名声，也使他们自己成为了明星。或许，他们本来可以达到与"沙滩男孩"、鲍勃·迪伦，甚至"披头士"同样的地位，可惜的是乐队内部不和，人员经常变换，影响了演奏质量和听众心理。到60年代中期，他们还有几首歌曲把摇滚乐典型的电子音响与乡村音乐相结合，对后来70年代流行的乡村摇滚（Country Rock）起到了示范和引路的作用。1968年，原来的飞鸟乐队成员只剩下麦吉恩一人。他与其他不同演奏者合作，继续以飞鸟乐队名义发行唱片，但都没超过1965-1968年期间所取得的成绩。1973年，原来的5名成员重新聚集到一起，录制了他们的最后一张专辑《飞鸟乐队》，不久，乐队宣告解散。

蓝色之光 Azure Ray

Maria Taylor来自迷幻民谣二人组合Azure Ray中，这是她05年的个人新专辑，不再是单纯的民谣风格，音乐上也更多元化。 Maria Taylor和Orenda Fink出生於美国乔治亚州Athens。两人十六岁时结识於阿拉巴马州立艺术学校，Maria主修芭蕾，Orenda主修戏剧，都对音乐保持强烈兴趣。毕业後搬到内布达加斯州Omaha 参加了power pop乐队Little Red Rocket，之後组成低调民谣风格的Azure Ray。所加入的独立厂牌Saddle Creek，就像个大家庭，乐手都在两个以上的 乐队演出，彼此熟识，相互支援，例如Azure Ray常与Bright Eyes巡回演出，让Omaha成为近年来美国中西部独立摇滚的重要基地。

有一种音乐，作为背景音乐时毫无知觉，只觉得很轻缓、很好听，但让你很想放下手边工作，等你看看歌词，仔细听她们到底在唱什么时，却不自觉让旋律一遍一遍至熟记为止，这些缓慢悲伤的曲子，有着心情净化的仪式效果。Maria Taylor和Orenda Fink 两个女生组成的Azure Ray，即是属于这一类。 Maria Taylor和Orenda Fink出生于美国乔治亚州Athens，与 R.E.M.是同乡(年纪差不多是他们的侄女辈吧)。两人十六岁时结识于阿拉巴马州立艺术学校，Maria主修芭蕾 ，Orenda主修戏剧，都对音乐保持强烈兴趣。毕业后搬到内布达加斯州Omaha 参加了power pop乐队Little Red Rocket，之后组成低调民谣风格的Azure Ray。所加入的独立厂牌Saddle Creek，就像个大家庭，乐手都在两个以上的乐队演出，彼此熟识，相互支持，例如Azure Ray常与Bright Eyes巡回演出，让Omaha成为近年来美国中西部独立摇滚的重要基地。 Azure Ray在音乐的表现上最引人注目的是 Maria Taylor 和 Orenda Fink默契绝佳、清新淡雅的和声，空心吉他、钢琴的器乐演奏以及优美的旋律都是聆听的重点，她们的曲风像是不吵闹时候的 Throwing Muses，表现出纤细脆弱情感时的Kristin Hersh和Tanya Donelly 姊妹俩，有些曲子又有着Mazzy Star 的梦幻感，例如首张专辑的" 4th of July"。我的看法是，就歌声而言，Azure Ray两位与dream pop众家女声相较，有着水平之上的表现。 Maria Taylor曾表示，恳求听众的耐心，需要一点时间来品酌歌词。2001年发行的首张专辑，淡褐色作底的封面里抱着头发的小女孩仿佛预示了一切。让我想起二十世纪初奥地利短篇小说家褚威格(Stefan Zweig)在1911年的作品"家庭女教师"。两个纯真的小女孩对家庭女教师的恋情非常好奇，作家写到她们遭遇大人世界的虚伪，内心产生微妙变化的描述，正是我对Azure Ray 音乐的印象。「在父母面前，她们假装天真烂漫，稚气十足，一转身就突然变得伶俐机警。她们的性格大变，变得神经过敏，焦躁不安。她们的眼神原有一种柔和而宁静的光芒，现在却燃烧得极为炽烈，眼神也变得更加深沉。她们在不断侦察窥探的过程中孤立无援，结果她们彼此相爱得更为深切。有时候她们感到自己实在天真无知，强烈渴望得到柔情爱抚，会突然间互相热烈地拥抱起来，或者突然泪如雨下。」(张玉书译,< 一位陌生女子的来信 褚威格短篇杰作选之一>,p.64,志文出版社,1999年出版)。 她们曾在访谈里表示，至今已十年的合作关系是非常密切的，平日生活也是行影不离，完全不能想象分开的情形，Azure Ray 的专辑都是非常私密的曲子，除了是为对方所写的以外，没有其它意图，性质类似两个女生的交换日记，在音乐呈现出成长经历和周遭经验的孤寂，失落，心痛，绝望。以及绝对低潮之后所升起的生命力，雨过天青的一丝希望。「For me,this music is why I can be happy,she said. "It's like an outlet where I can let out stuff that weighs me down so it doesn't weigh me down anymore.」 (http://www.timmcmahan.com/azureray.htm)现实生活里，她俩拥有的快乐，是因为音乐让情绪有了出口，不再有任何负担。 2003年的「 Hold on Love」是Azure Ray的第三张专辑，两人的和声仍是焦点，吉他与钢琴的表现依旧令人心折，值得推荐给无可救药的吉他爱好者。一开始的"The devil's feet"提及古老故事的诅咒，为了金钱出卖爱情，为了爱情出卖灵魂。"Look to me"有着台湾校园民歌的动人本质，旋律优美，唱着逝去不返的爱恋，那是鼻酸心痛的滋味，的确，爱情是世界上最困难的事。" The drinks we drank last night"、"Across the ocean"、"If you fall" 都是轻缓醉人的民谣，呼应着苏格兰Camera Obscura及瑞典Club 8等乐队，此外，曲子里钢琴演奏值得注意，特别是""Nothing like a song"从一分四十五秒开始的钢琴独奏，具有萧邦作品的品质。专辑里也增加了更多的电子节奏，像是"New Resolution"处处是电流四溢机械嘎喳的声响，而"We Are Mice"已有Portishead式的Tri-Hop 黑暗魅惑，我觉得是很不错的尝试，让整张专辑更有变化。最后一首与专辑同名的歌曲"HoldOn Love"，Maria与Orenda唱到： 「 So my head gets a little cloudy The the words come like a runaway train In the dark Just hold on love And the drink goes straight to my heart Hold on love Even when i cry all night Even when i say i don't love you Just hold on love 」 点出了Azure Ray 一路走来的信念，蔚蓝射线，坚信爱情，继续恋爱，永远保持着希望，寒冬后的阳光是最值得珍惜的。

Somewhere - Within Temptation

Within Temptation（诱惑本质，或译‘内部诱惑’）成立于1996年，自从荷兰的美声歌德金属乐团The Gathering（聚集），约莫于95、96年开始，在欧洲大放异彩之后，使得这样的美声式柔美金属乐型式，逐渐受到愈来愈多乐迷的喜爱，The Gathering的音乐风格也对相当多的新生代乐团产生启发和影响，而The Gathering的影响力有多大，从同为荷兰乐团的后生晚辈Within Temptation和After Forever身上就能听得到！

1996年，吉他手Robert Westerholt离开其原属的乐团The Circle(后来更名为Voyage)，希望另组新团以展开全新的开始，首先他找来他的女友Sharon den Adel担任主唱，接着他又邀请The Circle的前团员加入，于是bass手Jeroen van Veen和吉他手Michiel Papenhove两人决定跳槽来新团，最后，他们再找来一位鼓手Dennis Leeflang，Within Temptation就这样正式成军。不过此时他们仍缺一名keyboard手，很快地这个位置就由Robert的弟弟所补上，WT的阵容也终于抵定。

不久后，他们想方设法联络了不同的唱片机构,WT录制了一卷4曲的demo tape，并寄发给多家唱片公司，希望争取唱片合约，而这张demo也引起多家厂牌的注意，Within Temptation 最后决定与 DSFA Records签约。在与DSFA签约之后,一切进入正轨,然而由于团员们与鼓手不合，于是鼓手的位置很快便由新任的Ivar de Graaf入替。 1997年4月，Within Temptation正式发行了首张专辑，令人印象深刻。专辑风格若扣除吉他手Robert的death vocal演出，事实上就是全然优美导向的gothic metal，不过正由于death腔的加入及厚重的吉他刷扣，使得这张专辑既能呈现动人的优美气息，又不失金属乐该有的重量感。整张专辑的编曲结构虽然简单，但是丰富的情感和气氛烘托，伴随Sharon迷人演唱的引领，反倒能够紧紧地吸引住听者的耳朵！随后WT便受邀参与年度大型金属乐盛会Dynamo'97，此后的几个月时间，WT都在欧洲各地持续地展开演唱行程。他们甚至进行了两周的巡回演出，历经德国到澳大利亚。随后又有一些其它的精彩的演唱会，其中包括在Noor derslag。

97年年底鼓手Ivar离团，并由Ciro Palma入替。98年期间，WT除了参与了Dynamo'98，并继续一些演出之外，也推出了一张EP。进入99年后，WT决定暂停演出活动，并开始着手新专辑的创作，而Ivar也在此间重新归队。

2000年,是个变化很大的一年。他们接到邀请去参加在Benelux举行的一次盛大的庆祝活动经过一年多的潜沉，Within Temptation终于在2000年末发表了第二张正式专辑，同时此张作品也同步推出了2CD的特别版，多收录了一张制作精致的CD-ROM，除了有乐团介绍、团员照、一个小game及一首bonus曲外，也包含了几首WT现场演出的video，看到女主唱Sharon在表演时，穿著大礼服狂甩头的模样实在是令人惊讶的！

Within Temptation可说是一支表现出色的荷兰美声派gothic乐团，汲取前辈The Gathering的悠扬气氛作风，再更专注于乐曲的情感呈现，并以女主唱Sharon飘渺的动人音色为主轴，2000年末所发表的第二张专辑，不论在各方面都较上张专辑成熟相当多，乐团焦点Sharon明显能听出她唱腔上的进步，除了音色更为浑美外，在转音及高音表现上也都更显出色！而这张专辑的乐风走向则变得更为柔美，金属成份不但大为地减少，death腔的运用也已不复见，改而加入部份男女唱诗班的合唱演出，曲式的编写可说是针对Sharon所量身订作，完全突显出Sharon的美妙音色。

同时为了弥补演奏上的不足，WT特地请来知名键盘手Rene Merkelbach（Ayreon）负责专辑所有管弦乐及键盘器乐的编排，Rene为专辑注入了大量的交响气势，丰富的管弦乐器音色，让这张专辑有了唤然一新的感受！在中略显空洞的编曲，如今则变得鲜活起来，同样简单的编曲结构，但在细致而多样的管弦乐衬托之下，使得WT的悠扬曲式更加令人动容，整张专辑可说极为地悦耳！

事实上从专辑封面上Sharon装扮成天使的模样，以及背后的光明景像，就隐约透露出音乐的明亮走向，而确实优美的管弦乐、钢琴、诗唱表现，和抒情的曲式，使这张专辑中已完全不带一丝歌德的暗黑感，因此称其是歌德已不恰当，WT可说已转型为美声美旋律金属。

如此「柔美」的一张专辑，适合于需要平静或是好心情时聆听，不过金属乐份量的大幅降低，以及键盘管弦乐之外的其它乐器几乎没太多表现的作法，可能会受到一些金属乐迷的质疑，不论如何，音乐好听、有花费心思去做还是最重要的，而乐团的形式如何就不必太计较了。
